During our most memorable years that we spent in Sri Lanka, Salma and I were always amazed at how easily the Sri Lankan community got homes established to look after their elderly, abandoned and displaced women. When we finally got back to South Africa and Benoni, we realised that despite a vital need, no such facility existed in the Ekurhuleni area. The seed that was first planted in Sri Lanka, harvested itself in Benoni when Salma and I finally decided to initiate this concept.
Alhamdulillah, by the grace and mercy of the Almighty Allah, we have now established a home for the underprivileged and disadvantaged elderly, abandoned and displaced Muslim women. We have registered a non-profit organization called Darul Hasanah (House of Good Deeds) and have structured a constitution with specific aims and objectives that will Insha’Allah sustain its growth and perpetual succession.
By going through the various steps in registering the organization, I soon realised that this 'harvested seed' needed much more planning and nurturing and I often pondered how would this ever materialise? Alhamdullilah, it did; and I owe a special gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to my wife Salma for her relentless support, encouragement, commitment and loyalty.
I would also like to express a deep gratitude to both of our beloved Parents for their continuous and unwavering support and Duass. May Almighthy Allah guide their years with peace, comfort and most importantly Aafiyah.
A special thanks to each and every individual that played a role in making Darul Hasanah a reality. Our work begins now and we know that we can continue to count on your support.
Last but not least, I ask Allah Azzawajal to shower his choicest blessings on Darul Hasanah and to make this home be filled with eternal love, care and hope.
